OP's pic in post #16 is more representative of the FD height.

So, not much room with the taller teeth.

This appears to be the major difference between the setup on the old bike as opposed to the new one. If the front derailleur has to push the chain out farther than its design limits who knows what might happen

The limit screw is preventing the derailleur from reaching its design limits so I can’t believe that is a problem.

Time to close this chapter.
With a new chain, some shifts to the big ring were nice and others were as before. I tried a like new 50 tooth Ritchey and the result was similar. It all worked perfectly for years on my 2011 Milwaukee Road and I wanted that same perfection and gear selection on my 1977 Motobecane Grand Record. Oh well. Thanks for all the advice. The Motobecane is back to 6 speed friction and shifting well. The Milwaukee is a frame on a hook for now.

I checked the directionality of the chain, and this looks correct. See if the chain is always jumping in the same place. Mark the link where the chain jumps and see if it's always on that mark. Also, check the big ring very carefully for a very subtly bent tooth.

Addendum:
I put the 6700 back on my Milwaukee and had the same problem. I swapped the big ring for a Ritchey 50 to see if a fresh chainring would help and in raising the derailleur, I also rotated the tail of the cage inboard beyond parallel and so far, it’s good and dropped chains are eliminated. I feel soooo stupid. I put the Sugino big ring back on and it’s still good.
