Trick for installing circlip / c clip on coaster & internal gear hubs
Just a little tip learned today trial and errors:
Getting the circlip aka c clip onto a coaster brake or 3 speed (or more) IGH to hold the sprocket in place is easy when done thus:
1 - With thumb, hold clip in place against groove right at the opening in the clip
2 - Pry with your flat blade screwdriver at the 180 degree opposite side of the clip
The clip will open up and snap down into the groove. If it doesn't go in quite all the way around, push it down with the screwdriver so it snaps in all around.
This works WAY better than trying to hold it down on one side of the opening and ($*@&@)!!! with the screwdriver on the other side.

I'm impressed with the ease of installation using the levering screwdriver method, once one knows where to hold the clip and where to apply the lever. But that Kingsbridge tool looks very much dedicated to the job. Kind of like the massive block of steel that is my pedal cotter pin remover. Does it work by pressing down on the clip and wiggling, or is it set down over the grooved part of the hub and the clip pushed down the conical form until it clears the bottom and snaps into place?

Sometimes you'll find a bit of variation in those cogs and they need to be rotated to slip on the driver all the way.
Getting it off might require a tool, but not installing.
An external circlip may require a little more effort than just a round spring clip

Ah, of course. Replace the earless clip that came with the hub with a matching eared external retainer clip. Then use your snap ring pliers for easy peasy installation. Yes. Upvote. I will definitely do this if I decide to change gear ratio.
