Thanks again for the replies.
I'm feeling a bit nervous about filing the slots as I don’t want to weaken it, but I really like the idea of the pad housing extension and even better, the drop bolt. For the latter though the only one I could find was the Campagnolo one, beautiful indeed but it’s £46.

I converted a pair of RSX 100, a mid reach calipers set, for nut mount mount on an old touring frame. That bolt is very common between brands.

Assume you remove a millimeter or two on each brake arm. You install the pads and squeeze the brake lever as tightly as you can, the brake shoes now exerting over 200 psi on the rim. What do you think will happen to the brake arms?
