Need help with adjusting new XT 12-speed levers

I replaced my Deore 12-speed rear derailleur with an XT one, it shifted beautifully with the Deore shift levers that came with the bike.

Now I'm replacing the Deore shift levers with XT (SL-M8100-R) and things are not going well! I set low limit, tension the cable, and it shifts okay from 12-11, 11-10, then it starts jumping two gears at a time. It takes me EIGHT CLICKS to get to 1st gear, jumping two gears pretty much every shift after the second one.

I disconnected the cable and pulled with my hand and verified it is a 12-speed shifter, at first I thought maybe it was the wrong shifter in the box.

It shifted perfectly with the Deore levers, so I would think that things like the B screw are correct, but I verified anyway and it's correct.

I am stumped!!

Well, that was a stupid mistake! I wanted to post what the issue was.

Instead of running the cable from top down (counterclockwise) ran it bottom up (clockwise.)

Ran the cable the correct way, shifts like a dream!

Not a stupid mistake. Those derailleurs need better instructions on cable routing. It's so easy to miss a loop and change the geometry
