Front shock leak?
Hi
I just bought a used bike and the front left fork shock has a leak and needs to be completely rebuilt. costing about $200. right now the front end is supported by just the right fork. My question is if I ride until both sides fail, will the rebuild be more expensive? should I not ride it until it's rebuilt? tks |
buy a new fork.
Avoid Bucklos, and any other super-cheap chinese forks, unless you have a death wish. |
yeah I thought about that, but the one on my bike is around $650. so even if I go for a cheap fork I'm only saving $50 or $60

PS.. $200 for a complete fork rebuild is not unreasonable at all... and yes, the longer you ride it, the more it will cost due to increased wear rates created by lack of lube, dirt getting past bad wipers, and worn bushings...

Fox suspension is well worth rebuilding.

Yeah get it rebuilt and NO NEVER wait until it totally fails, maintain your bikes and the parts on it and they will last longer and work better. Don't run things to the point of failure unless it is some wallymart BSO type thing but that is a whole different story. Fox Forks are good are worth rebuilds and maintenance and all of that. I have a 36 Factory on one of my bikes and it is fantastic. There is probably not a product from them that isn't worth a rebuild if not totally damaged and beyond repair.
