Downtube Cable Stop and BB cable guide.
 

Hi all. I don't know if this is the correct sub-forum, so forgive me if it's not. So, I've been posting in various areas about some ideas I have for a CRIT bike. I want to build out an aluminum frame and have honed in on some nice framesets. But one that I really like doesn't have downtube cable stops, or what I've seen called are cable stop "barrels". It also doesn't have a bottom bracket cable guide. This would be for an older Italian-made aluminum frame (pre-2010.) Are these parts that I will have a hard time obtaining? Thanks!

Search: "Bicycle bottom bracket cable guide" on Ebay... you can drill and tap a hole in the BB to attach the guide. the typical screw size for those is a pan head, M5 x .8mm thread, 8 or 10mm long... it must not thread through far enough to contact/dimple the BB shell, or trouble ensues at your next BB removal time. The Guides for a Cannondale might be the best guess for an aluminum frame since they are shaped for a somewhat larger BB frame tube... the Ft. Der. guide runs farther up the frame too, this prevents cable contact with the Soft Aluminum...

as to the cable stops... are you planning to weld or braze them to the frame?
clamp-on type? if that's your hope, i hope your tubes that you want to clamp to are 1 1/8" diameter, because other sizes are not easy to find.
I'd try the frame builders sub-forum for advice on the stops.

another option for obtaining the stops if you're welding/brazing.. a Donor Frame.. Post a ISO ad on your local Craigslist for a Broken or bent up frame for free, or hit up a local Bike Rebuilder/Recycler/Co-Op, and ask them for a dead aluminum bike , then salvage what your need...

Does it have downtube shifter bosses? If so they make cable stops that go onto them.
