Swapping suspension fork back to rigid fork?
So I picked up this Bianchi Nyala from the Goodwill for $20. It's in the process of being refusbished and I have all it's parts. I (eventually) noticed that the original rigid fork was replaced with this suspension fork. It came upon me slowly and after I replaced the rear brake cable I started in on the front, noticed the other cable hanger, and said "Oh....". Understanding that it makes the geometries different, should I replace it with an original rigid fork? I have not ridden it yet. No, I'm not keeping it, it's a flipper. I can probably get a rigid fork from a freind for like $10.
Potential responses include: 1. Chris, the planet is on fire. Just sell it as is. There are more important things to worry about. 2. The geometry is off. If someone crashes it may be your fault. 3. It's going to ride all wonky. 4. Chris, you are overthinking this. It's fine. Thank you. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9f3b72173c.jpg |
If it feels decent and handles decent while you ride it, then I'd go for answer #4.
Not sure about you saying it's in the process of being refurbished and you have all the parts. So are those the new parts on the bike already, if not then what's wrong with the parts that are already on it? Does all the parts include a rigid fork of the proper size? if not, I'd be even more inclined to leave it as is. You'd be surprised at all the threads from people wanting to put a suspension fork on their bikes. Maybe this was one of them if it was formerly a rigid fork. |

Door #4. I switched a rigid to susp. fork on a mtn. bike and it resulted in a slacker angle. Actually liked it better!
