Saracen tufftrax 2012

I am a noob regarding bottom bracket spindle replacement. It's very worn on my bike so if I peddle even moderately hard, the peddle crank slips.

I've started watching some vids on the process. I'm a noob on part sizes or which parts. I haven't taken that assembly apart yet but I understand there may be part information on the spindle etc?

Thanks,

Raphael

"if I peddle even moderately hard, the peddle crank slips"

This description isn't one that I associate with a worn BB. Loose BB in shell, loose arm on BB axle, worn chain and/or rear cogs, shifting set up/adjustments are some the vastly more common reasons why bit seems that the pedals are "slipping" forward.

Before spending $ do your homework on why you have this problem. Also begin the education of what your bike has, component wise. Andy

However, the entire peddle crank rocks back and forth and there is some degree of looseness at the bottom axle. The slipping only occurred since this degree of wobble emerged.

When you say "back and forth" do you mean forward and backward or side to side? Forward and backward suggests either the crank arms are moving on the axle or there is so much slop in the BB that you experience this. Wobbling side to side would be from slop in the BB (totally worn/broken/lost bearings). Typically "slipping" sounds like the chain jumping teeth on the rear cogs or the chain rings.

I should have been more clear in my explanation...

There is so much slop in BB it causes the chain to slip off the crank cog if I pedal harder. Even a slight incline is enough to cause it now. Bearings are shot.

I could probably upload a vid later.

Buy a new cartridge style bottom bracket. Shimano makes them in all sizes. Do the measurements OR take the the axle/spindle to LBS and they can measure so you know it’s correct. Sheldon Brown is great for this. Written word better than video in my opinion.
Also if you changed the cassette or the crank from stock you could have another, second problem. Namely chain line mistake. This would be rare that you made any changes being a noob

Another thought, crank arms can get damaged if installed on the axle improperly. Namely too loose. The taper hole gets elongated. I’ve done this myself by not tightening the crank arm bolts sufficiently. Could be you or blame a previous owner. Ha ha.
BTW the LBS is also your friend. Their advice may be all you need. Alternatively they can help you avoid damaging to the part during repair. Believe me I made this mistake a few times as well. Trial and error is a good teacher. Just a little expensive.
