Fitting modern 105 octalink bottom bracket on 80's road bike?

Hi All,

Plumbing for some insider knowledge here... I have a mid-80's Specialized Allez road bike with a 68mm bottom bracket. I'm planning on upgrading the cranks and saw jensenusa.com have on offer $100 ultegra 39/53. Of course, the spindle required is octalink, so I'd have to replace my bottom bracket. I see no reason why that'd be a problem, but wanted to confirm that before shelling out around $150...

thanks!!!

As long as you know the threading (and it sounds as if you do) it should work just fine.

Remember, 109.5mm for double, 118 for triple.

Thanks!

I suspect the threading is English... 1980's specialized *must be* english, right?! I posted to the specialized rider support forum on their website, anyway.

Been there - done that - works like a charm! Just measure the width of the BB housing before you order the new BB - most are 68, a few are 70.
