I read some old threads, but how...
...do I clean oil/tar off of my new road bike? Aluminium frame, carbon fork... One of the roads we rode on last week was being paved and we had no choice but to ride through some fresh paving materials, now some of the frame has oil and goo. Are tar removers for cars safe for my frame?
TIA for the help...

There are a bunch of cleaning products available.
You could try the citrus oil stuff sold just about
anywhere. I think Finish line sells a citrus degreaser
which should work. Also Pedro's has some very
good products. check out some of the larger
online shops they have pretty good descriptions
of products.

I have found the Pedro's Bio-Degreaser(In the large pour-top jug) to be very effective. I started to use this degreaser/bike wash because it came with a Pedro's cleaning kit. You mix a certain amount(specified on the bottle) of the Bio-Degreaser with some water and it works perfectly. Good luck.

I have used Dr. Bronner's Magical 18-in-1 Liquid Peppermint Hemp Oil Soap to take oil and tar off of my bike. I am not kidding. Undiluted it did a good job.
They sell tar and bug remover stuff at auto parts store, but I think I would try citrus degreaser or good old dish soap first.

Thanks for the thoughts...after reading some of the older threads I got concerned about the citrus vs. aluminium problem. I like that peppermint hemp oil idea...
Thanks again!
