12 speed di2 compatibility
 

Hi so I am in the process of converting my trek dual sport 3 eq into a drop bar gravel/loaded touring bike. My current drivetrain consists of; shimano xt 10-45 12 speed cassette with the xt 2x 12 speed rear derailluer and grx 810 crankset 48/31 with an xt t8000 3x front derailluer then slx 2 x.12.speed shifters. This is made possible with a derialluer hanger extender and larger jockey wheels (14t and 16t paired with the stock xt 2x cage). At present it is working perfectly though it could really use a trim function. So I've seen this setup working on youtube (10-45 cassette, grx crankset) with the shimano grx 825 system again using deriallier extenders and the like. So I'm trying to ascertain compatibility with any 12 speed di2 flat bar mtb shifters. I mean I will be using the drop bar stuff mainly but I am considering having a swappable flat bar and drop bar setup. It would also be much quicker for me to get electronic shifting up.and with my current flat bar setup first then get the drop bar parts as i can only really afford to do it part by part. I understand that 12 speed parts exclusively work with 12 speed shifters as the wiring standard changed at 12 speed. So does anyone know if I the grx 825 front and rear derialluer would work with any mtb 12 speed shifters? If so would trim Still work. I have been struggling to decide between mechanical grx and di2, but my partner has rsi injuries in her wrist and is looking to get her own bike and wishes to see if di2 makes a difference to her pain levels and my only Real problem with my setup is how accurate the indexing needs to be, I don't know if it's more so than stock and the fact i have such a large range makes it even more pedantic but I'm having to tune it every other ride, sometimes multiple times a ride on long rides. And its getting really annoying. Dunno if anyone else has experienced this but di2 would.solve that problem. Then theres the fact that I really want full control on my top bar for descending. That was my main deal breaker with drop bars for off road. To get weight off of front wheel, hold the tops. But then there was no brakes. With the advent of the grx hydraulic slave lever that problem is now gone and with di2, I can use satellite shifter and have 3 proper positions where I have full control of my brakes and gears (drops, hoods and tops). So yea I plan to mainline di2. Any experience would be welcome!

Maybe that post could have used a paragraph or two. Do I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about? No where on that guide does it state compatability between 12 speed road derailluer and 12 speed mtb shifter, and prior to posting this thread, I had already spent months trying to answer this question, including searching this forum. Whats that saying, if you don't have anything constructive to contribute stfu. Pretty damn rude and you answered my question with nonsense.

It just made your very very long post littered with product codes difficult to parse and find what the actual question is. When analysing text, people have a limited working memory to assemble an idea of what they’re reading before they have to drop something to let a new concept in.

Paragraphs help to bookend that process into manageable chunks.

Fronting it with what you wanted to know so that someone could immediately see if it’s something they can help with, without having to first trawl through a wall of text would make it much more likely you’ll get helpful responses.
