I have a Vistalite Supernebulous 5 safety light. At one time, my LBS attached it to the back of my Blackburn Mountain rack by screwing a very thin L - shaped strip of aluminum to the rack and screwing the light to its other end just under the very back or the rack.

After a hundred miles or so, the aluminum strip first bent and broke not too many miles after that. My LBS
mounted it a few more times with the exact same type of strip with the same results.

Is there a sturdier, ready-made strip that I could buy that would hold and wouldn't break? Some people have suggested something called an Al Strip. What is it? Would it work? Are there other options?

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so if you do have suggestions, please describe how I could attach it. I greatfully welcome any imput you may have. You can semd a private message if you wish.

The web says that your light came with a seatpost clamp. Does that not work for you for some reason? That would be my first try (I have my light mounted to my seat post)

In looking at the Blackburn rack, it looks like that little thin piece is the standard way to mount reflectors etc... I don't know how it is conected to the rack, but if it is screwed on underneath, I would suggest going to a hardware store and getting a heavier, approriately sized, L bracket to put on instead of the light weight (apparently too light) solution, unless the extra few grams is a problem for you.

This may require some drilling of the bracket you find, but if you know someone that can take about 2 minutes for that, you should be set. (Some helpful hardware store workers might do it for you, or the local mechanic for a buck or two)

Also, more expensive, but you could buy a different rack with a heavier duty reflector mounting bracket. On my rack (a Giant) the bracket is welded to the rack, and to break it would be virtually impossible to do accidentally.

Good luck in finding a solution that works for you!

Would I only be able to attach the light to the L Bracket with the plastic screw provided with the light, or would I need to also find a screw from the hardware store that would fit and still hold? Would a separate screw hold? Would the plastic screw hold on?

I would not use a plastic screw. Visit your LBS and I'm sure they can provide a screw for you.
