Huge spreadsheet with cable pull ratios etc. Where is it?
The other day while searching for cable pull ratios for different Shimano and SRAM shifters and derailleurs, I came across a massive online spreadsheet with lots of detailed information including cassette widths and cog pitches. Stupidly, I forgot to save the link and now cannot find it. Does anyone have the link for it? Thanks!

I looked, and either the data is not there or I'm not capable of interpreting it. Front derailleur/shifter question:
The spring is too stiff on my Microshift 3X FD (used on a 2X system) for me to upshift with a gripshift. I want to trade more cable pull, for lower force. I've obtained a Shimano FD-5800 105 road FD, it says "11" on the back of it, it is special for Shimano 11 road systems with brifters, as it has a longer shift arm, so longer cable pull than "standard"; What I want to do is use that FD for my 2X system, but using a gripshift (with normal Shimano FD ratios) to shift 1-3 (twice the cable pull) to do it. Are the ratios of that FD and gripshift (again, going 1 to 3) compatible? I can't yet mount the FD to try it out as it has a larger linkage on the back, so won't fit my FD adapter, where I currently have the Microshift FD. I would need to space it back just a hair to fix that interference. Thanks in advance. |

I know the Shimano 11 FD will need less force to shift, both softer spring, and longer arm, the question is, what's that arm ratio versus "standard" Shimano road, and is it 2:1, because that should allow me to do a double shift (1-3) at the front gripshift. However it looks like the arm ratio on that FD-5800 may be something around 1.5 to 1.7 pull ratio versus standard ratio of "1". I don't know. I can't check a compatibility chart because I'm doing something not normal, trying to use a double shift (1-3) for a single shift (1-2) on a long-arm FD, for lower shift force. |
(above) Still can't find an answer online. I do find tables comparing cable pull ratio for rear derailleurs, but not front. And even on the table for RD, there was this statement at the bottom:
"Shimano 11-speed groups do not have any published data regarding derailleur ratio. The (RD) ratio listed was calculated by measuring cable pull and cog pitch and solving for the ratio." But again, that still does me no good as I need the ratio for Shimano 11-speed road FD versus "standard" 8/9/10 speed Shimano FD ratio. EDIT: I think I can do what I want, use a gripshift 1-3 shift with FD 11 speed to achieve lower shift force on a 1-2 2X shift. All I need is that the 1-3 shift pulls equal or more cable than is needed for the weird long-arm 11 speed FD, I think it's gonna pull more than is needed. Then, I adjust "3" to a perfect (cable pull) shift onto the 2X big ring, and when I shift to "1", I'll adjust the FD low ring stop to where it should be for the inner chainring, then any additional cable offered by the shifter will just make the cable go slack, not an issue if not so much it tries to buckle the cable or pushes the cable housing out of the road FD adapter. |
