Ksyrium Elite

I just picked up this older (I think) NOS Ksyrrium Elite Campy wheel. My 11s Campy cassette fit on this weird hub just fine, but 2 questions. First, it came with an aluminum (I believe) lock ring. Do I need to use that instead of the standard Campy one? Second, this seems to have very little contact with the cassette. Is it going to hold up or are these problematic? Anyone have an idea how old it is?

The lockring is part of the cassette, so I would use the Campy lockring. The wheels are something pre-2009, but probably not much before that. Starting in '09 they machined the profile of the rims more elaborately.

I don’t think it matters which lock ring you use as long as it threads into the freehub body and it’s compatible with the smallest cog on the cassette (eg, IIRC I had a ring that came with a 12-23 Campag cassette and it apparently wasn’t compatible with cassettes that started with an 11 sprocket. More concerning is your statement that the lock ring has « little contact » with the cassette. Is the cassette clamped tightly or can the sprockets still move? They need to be really clamped down or shifting will suffer and/or you’ll damage the freehub body

Sorry, I was grammatically vague. I meant that the splines in this design have little contact patch. There are only 4 of them, and they each consist of two thin rails, rather than being a solid block.

"Pick two" is what you were supposed to say for this to make sense. Two. Not one.

only picking one saves grammatical weight.

I have a set of these I picked up on FB marketplace but they are set up for Shimano stuff. I'm also curious about their age.
