3d Printed Cable Housing Ferrules
I can never seem to find the right ferrules when I need them, so I mocked up a few for shift and brake cable housing. Figured I'd throw them up here in case they are helpful to anyone!

I have all the ferrules I need, but I like the color of your bike. Green with black accents. Bigger picture please.

I don't think ferrules if made by FDM from plastic filament would be stable enough to resist repetitive braking. There are air gaps between layers and lines of extruded filaments. The gaps would eventually compress resulting in misalignment. If you're using shift cable housing that's a bundle of steel wires, if there's a wire longer than the others it may poke a hole through the ferrule.

You have trouble finding cable ferrules? They are everywhere. Also, the aluminum ones are best. The steel wires in the shift cable housing has a habit of coming out and poking its way through the ferrules.

buy ferrules in bulk, next time around.

Shift housing probably fine but brakes maybe not

Off the OP: OK Moderators - When are we going to get an area specific to 3D-Print/CNC links and information instead of, with prejudice, burying these posts in Sub-Forums.
We have "Industry News" with 19 threads and "Group Buy" with 2 threads. Having an area for thought, development, and Testing of bicycle related 3D-Print/CNC devices would be a gem... |
