long nosed ferrules
I don't know what the politically correct name is but that's what I'm going to call them. I usually just put regular ferrules on the derailleur housing going into the shifters BUT, I'm putting R8000 onto my '04 TCR and I want to do things right.
I think I'm suppose to use the long nosed ferrules on the derailleur housings going into the shifters 2 regular ferrule on the downtube cable stops for the front derailleur and rear derailleur and one long nosed on the housing going into the chainstay cable stop going to the rear derailleur. 1 regular ferrule on the cable stop on the rear derailleur itself. Then. I use 2 long nosed ferrule on either end of the top tube cable stops for the rear brake. Nothing on the housings going into the brake calipers themselves, nothing for the brake housings going into the shifters? Long winded question. Thankx in advance. Had to edit, I understand there a short nosed ferrule that goes into the R8000 shifters for the derailleurs and the longer nosed ferrules that are used on the cable stops..???? |
here's a thread link, v below v, discussing the pros and cons of those friction causing long nosed Cable Housing End caps.. i am not a fan of them, as i've found that they cause more issues than they solve... others have their opinions, and there are specific situations where they reduce cable wear. They collect dirt in the tiny tubes and hold water in the housings.
i also feel that their presence creates false expectations of cable longevity, leading to one of the worst, most epic, struggles known to bicycle mechanics... the notorious broken brifter cable removals. one poster reports a shop that has kept all the broken/ruined brifters caused by this failure... it's a large collection. best plan.. change your cables more frequently. https://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-m...ifter-end.html |
