Today’s task: cleaning hardware
 

I save bolts, nuts, and sundry specialized hardware. Today, l decided to clean up my 30-year accumulation of V-brake nuts and alignment washers. (See photo.)

That’s not that many for a 30 year collection. I’ve got that many behind my tool bench:rolleyes:

when the parts org. drawer of those gets too full to open/close, i weed out the dingey and rusted ones, then accumulate more...
i have about 100 of each cups/cones, plus about 50 nuts.... and i just bought a bigger organizer for those bits, plus valve stem caps, rack screws, 4,5,6mm allens, canti/v-brake post screws, chainring screws/nuts, valve cores, etc... and i've incorporated the axle cones/spacers/seals/nuts/washers into that org. too. The axle stuff was previously in an old o-ring asst. box...

I have about 10 Plano boxes filled with my small parts stash. Each compartment is holding separate types of parts like front cones, front axle washers, front lock nuts and so on. The small parts collection started over 40 years ago when working in a shop and my parts stash was catalogued by our purchasing employee, and he labeled the book " Honk's small parts " as a joke about my anatomy. The stash today is likely a pretty good source for almost any Campy vintage part. Being one of those BF hoarders that keeps darned near everything, and it has helped a lot of folks. This week it was a BF'er that was in need of Paramount decals. Mebbe I can get a few pictures of the stuff posted later. Smiles, MH

It is amazing how fast i got rid of all that stuff when i went from my big work shop at home to a apartment at 77 not thinking i would flip any more bikes. I have no room for all that storage. I have flipped about 25 bikes since moving. That market is long gone now.

To be clear, this was just my accumulation of dirty V-brake hardware. I have lots of other garbage ​​​​​​ usable stuff in my work area.

It’s not like I’m trying to compete with the rest of you collectors. :rolleyes:

I think of this as another satisfying and gratifying side project.

When I was woodworking, the big 'fine furniture' projects would drain me. In between, I'd make cutting boards -- the equivalent of coasting with a tailwind on a bike :-)
