pedal thread size

I have a pair of egg beater pedals I'm trying to put on a old Schwinn Continental. The problem is the pedals turn out to have a 14mm diameter while the 'female' side on the crank arms has a 12mm diameter.

Is there anyway to pull the spindle from the old 12mm pedals and put it in the egg beaters? I've considered machining down the spindle on the egg beaters, though I'm not entirely confident I could pull it off

Any ideas? Suggestions?

The pedals are 9/16" and your crank is 1/2". Get the correct pedals or crank.
