Disk brake problem

I just got my first set of disk brakes and every once in awhile they'll start to squeak for a bit and my friend told me its normal and that his do that sometimes also...is this true? If not how can I fix this?

It depends... One thing that can cause squeaky disc brakes is if the pads get out of alignment. Also, some brakes tend to squeal a bit before the pads break in. I have Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes and a few rides back they were squealing like a pig. Fortunately, Avids are so easy to adjust that I was able to realign the caliper on the side of the trail in about 2 minutes flat. No more noise.

Could just be as simple as oil from your fingers on the disks. This is noise only under light braking, right?
