Sachs Quartz hub ?
Several years ago I had a rear wheel (700c) made up for loaded touring. At that time there was a local wheel builder in the area and he did good work. He laced a 36h Sachs Quartz hub to a Mavic T217 rim with 14 ga. spokes. This wheel has served me well with zero problems. I was told that this hub has sealed bearings. I have repacked and replaced bearings on LX and XT hubs but never on a sealed bearing hub. The Sachs is not causing any problems but I wonder if I should pick up some new sealed bearings for it. How hard is it to replace the sealed bearings in this hub? Do you just remove the side plates and remove the bearings and replace them with the new ones? I don't see many of these hubs on the road anymore and don't think they are being made anymore either. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Can I just take the new bearings with me on tour and use them if I need them? Thank you for any help you can give me.
