STI shifters (DCL's) stuck in swung position

full Ultegra setup...I was going to adjust my rear der so I went to shift the front der from 30 to 39T CR and it didn't shift. Worse the STI stayed 'locked' in the shifting position and won't come 'home'. What do I do to get it to release and come back so I can go on shifting, adjusting and most importantly, RIDING?

The shifter cable could of frayed within the cable housing..... if you are competent with fiddly cables, you could check this out yourself... otherwise a trip to the shop perhaps?

I took the cable off the front der...total slack even pulled it through the STI a little..not a problem with the cable. Should I disassemble the STI completely and reinstall?

^^^....Taking the lever apart will guarantee you won't be riding till you get a new one.

So what is the solution. I have heard you can't really work on STI levers and if anything goes wrong with them you have to pretty much replace them.

^^^... Look for a loose or missing screw on the upper backside of the levers.Make sure the cable isn't jammed...hose out with solvent like wd 40 ,relube, if still no workee, toss. If under warrrranyt, don't mess with.Just take to LBs.

everything is lubed up pretty good. it's a new ultegra system but i bought it from a friend of a friend. I'm guessing the warranty isn't transferrable. Is it?

Also, just seems like the ratchet system isn't working. Everything else seems to be ok. The screw holding the 'ultegra' bling cover on is there as is the tiny black screw underneath that and over where the cable goes thru. The cable isn't stuck in it or anything but I made sure it's in the right place within the assembly. Any other suggestions before I swear and cuss and piss and moan about having to spend 2-400 more on this new bike I just bought?

Take it to a LBS? They might know a few tricks that you don't.
