a little help with a loose chain

I just put my brand spanking 04 specialized Robioux on the road for the first time this season, due to back problems...the odd thing is that the chain works fine while peddling and shifting but is all messed up when I stop it's motion (e.g. stop peddling or spin it in reverse.) I really don't want to bother the folks at my LBS as they have been fantastic with me and my health probs and storing the bike for me so I wouldn't ride it and get worse AND even try to resell it for me, when it looked as though i wasn't gonna ride for a WHILE...

Any info or directions to a site would be fantastic!!!

Happy Sunday, Everyone.

Happy safe riding today,
~tony

What do you mean "all messed up"? Does it drag on the derailleur pulley? Does it try to walk off of the rear cog or the chainring teeth?

A more detailed description of the problem would be a big help.

Thanks for the reply. It's strange. All gears shift fine, but as soon as I stop pedding, it's like the rear derailer is not pulling the chain back. It's like the pedding backwors thing....I dont think it wants to walk anywhere, just that it sat in the shop for about a years annd maybe there needs to be a cable adjustment...is that the barrel I see on the back of the rear derailer??

Thanks,
~tony

^^^ ...if it shifts right it ain't the barrel adjuster or the limit screws either. Take it to the shop and let them sort it out.
