Ultegra Front Derailleur Compatibility

I'm thinking about upgrading my existing Ultegra Triple front derailleur to the new Shimano 10 Speed Ultegra 6600 Triple Front Derailleur. I currently have a 9-speed rear Ultegra and 52-42-30 chainring set up in front. I believe the new Ultegra triple is 52-39-30.

Is the new front derailleur fully compatible with my existing chainring set and rear derailleur and 9-speed cogset? Would the new derailleur connect to the existing "braze-on" on my Trek 5200 without modification?

I've heard the new front derailleur is better designed resulting in improved shifting. Any personal experience would be appreciated, especially specific tips on how to make this upgrade go smoothly.

The 10 speed Ultegra has a slightly narrower cage and is designed to work with a 39 middle ring. If poorly adjusted, it won't shift any better than a poorly adjusted tiagra. If you just gotta anyway get a 9 speed ultegra.

The 9-speed derailleur will fit your chainrings better.
