Does Sydney = Peter White?
Just a passing thought. These are two prolific authors of technical bicycle posts/web information that I read from time to time that have struck me in the same way: being extremely knowledgeable with a notably sarcastic tone. I know, I know... there must be a very large number of surly (lowercase 's' intended) expert bicycle mechanics, but I wonder how many have so much hands on technical experience yet still have the time to make such frequent posts? No disrespect meant to either of them; the information from both is very much appreciated (and they can both be extremely amusing)... I mean this entirely as an amusing distraction.

Sydney may be sarcastic, but he's been spot-on every time I've needed technical info. I may disagree with him occasionally on style and fit questions, but I seriously value his opinion on technical questions - carpet smoking or no...
Here's to Sydney!

I saw sydney star in a movie the other day. He played a wrestler in Spiderman, where Peter Parker takes him on in a cage for $3000 (and wins).

You guys are joking, right? I wasn't on this forum for 2 weeks before I caught wrong / misleading information being spouted, backed by nothing more interesting than garden variety overblown internet ego. The only person who can be funny using the word 'muppet' is P.H. Moriarty, and I sorta don't think THEY'RE one in the same.

He is very humourous , a true parody of techno-weenies everywhere. Lot's of bike shops have their very own caricature of Sydney. Derisive, insulting, and quick to demean others. For decades, the Sydney's in the bike biz called anybody who wasn't one of them, "Freds"
Like if you had a kickstand on your bike, you were a "FRED". If you wore a helmet , if your handlebars were higher than your seat, if you brought your lock on a bike ride, if you didn't use Alfredo Binda leather toe straps and Benotto handlebar tape, You were a "FRED" .
Sydneys have always been around to insult others for not knowing what they know, for not being like them. This one just substitutes the word "Muppets" for "FRED" .
Many of the smarter, better educated and less greasy Sydneys have moved on to better paying hobbies and industries now though.
Sydney-itis afflicts many in the computer helpdesk and network field.
Computer technical forums are literally swarming with Sydneys. Their favorite word is "RTFM"
whenever anybody asks a question they consider beneath them they spout "Read the F***ing Manual" like a mantra.
This Sydney here is just another example of an overposting technoclown whose main purpose is to entertain us. Enjoy him.

In my shop the guys used to call them "knobs", but most of those guys were surfers and they have their own language.
As to the moving on to better-paying industries, I sometimes suspect it's the low pay in the bike biz that fuels the contankerousness; I certainly wasn't happy in that economic bracket!
BTW, its sydney, not Sydney...

I don't know, which is why I said "I suspect", although your lame janitor remark really says all I need to know.

Sydney and Peter are both aces in my book
Sydney gives great advice here (bikeforums), no vanity bull***** ("Yo dudes, check out my new jersey" threads, etc)
Peter has TONS of sweet NOS components on his website, and good technical info as well
layoff the carpet smokin' ;-)
