Front Der downshifting problems

The 105 front derailleur on my santana has gone from excellent shifting to difficulties shifting into the smallest chainring. Bike has about 2000 mi on it LBS has adjusted several times and finally replaced cable. Their efforts have improved it greatly but sometimes it doesn't want to make that jump to the small ring. Any thoughts

Unhook the cable and set the low limit a bit further out? Make sure the der. cage is about 2mm above the teeth of the large chainring when its in the large chain ring? Those are the two things that usually fix this issue.
