Naked chainwheel skip?

Assuming that I remove the front derailleur, using a "naked" front chainwheel with the existing rear derailleur and cogset, how often is the chain likely to skip off the ring? Once in ten miles? Once in a hundred? Other than leaving the derailleur in place as a chain guide, is there any riding technique or alternate method of preventing chainring skip? Thanks.

You mean, besides a bonafide chain guide? Something like this Rohloff piece could take the place of your front derailleur:

Also try a chainring without ramps and pins, if you can find one.

I liked the look of that chainguard so much I went looking for it on the internet. Here's what I found:

Mine came off jumping kerbs on my 2 smaller cogs of the cluster.
https://www.mountainbikes.net/mtbikes...&kaufen=Kaufen Something like this will be put on Fri.
Currently I use a handmade rig. Many different guides\tensioners to choose from.
Also sandwiching the ring, bashring outer, plate inner will work.

Use an old front derailleur as a chain guide.

Set it low over the chainring, almost touching, and adjust the limit screws so it is position how you like it.

This unit can be unscrewed and rotated back to run as a device to stop chain jump.
Got it today.
Wicked. Some mods needed to get the upper pulley down onto the ring.
