Dia Compe 287 lever ID?

By looking at the levers, how does one determine whether Dia Compe's levers are 287 or 287-V models?

The V has an extra black plastic thingy on the upper top part of the lever.

Well DAMN! Mine doesn't I want to use these levers with V brakes. Can I do so, or is it back to e-Bay for a set of 287Vs?

Thanks to all - I'll keep an eye peeled for 287Vs, and try these in the meantime.

Just to be clear - are you saying:

1. ROAD levers don't have nearly enough pull?
2. My 287 Dia Compes (made to work with cantilevers, with roughly the pull of a standard MTB lever) don't have enough pull?
3. Or are you saying that neither the road levers nor the 287's have enough pull?

Sorry - I just don't want to misinterpret what you're saying.

Whatever...If you try it before barreling down a mountain at 50mph, you won't die from tying it in the subdivision.

BUT!.......I've been using my 287V's on standard cantis. The extra pull gives me that crisp solid feel......although I know I'm sacrificing some mechanical advantage. It's a similar feeling/action you get using extra long straddle cables, for instance....
