pedal keeps slackening

OK so I borrowed my father in-laws bike, but every time I use it the pedal falls off. the nut seems to unwind as I pedal, I tighten it up then it slackens, any tips? help? suggestions?

thanks in advance

Prepare for a divorce! the hard steel pedal spindle has probably ruined the soft aluminum threads on the crank on account of being operated while loose.

Tell us more: What kind of bike? What crank? What pedal? what specifically is the problem?

erm I don't know, I'm new to biking. All I know is that I tighten it up & it slackens off as soon as I start pedalling. I'll take a closer look tomorrow & post my findings

is it the nut/bolt that holds the crank onto the bottom bracket spindle, or the pedal/crank interface that is the issue? your original post is sort of ambiguous.

wild silly guesses

Old bike theory, the axial on the pedal is rusted frozen
Hipster bike theory, your father in law built a left hand drive bike with regular components.
No thread left behind theory, the crank is striped

Cheers and please do not take too seriously

its the nut which holds the pedal shaft onto the crank, the crank thread is fine not stripped
