Shimano 105 compat
 

Any wrenches out there know of a 48 tooth chainring that will replace a Shimano 105 52A?

I have a 30-42-52A setup and can't use the 52. It's just too many gear inches (I have a dual drive in the rear hub). Trikes get squirelly over 40, and shifting to that 52 creates pedal steer problems at high speed.

A 48T with a 130mm BCD will work just fine on any Shimano road crank, including the 105 triple. The 105 front derailleur will also work with the smaller chainring even though it was designed for a 52T big ring.

A few years ago Trek fitted an RSX group with a 46T big ring to one of their mid-line road bikes but used an RX-100 (105 with a bit less finish) front derailleur. It shifted well.

TA Specialties Alize chainrings are designed to replace Shimano triple rings. These are available from Sheldon Brown / Harris Cyclery or Peter White Cycles. You can probably also order them through your LBS.
