Brown Cloth Bar Tape?

Anybody know where such a thing can be gotten? In NYC or on the internet? I just got my new B17 (honey colored), and I want to get cloth tape to match.

Thanks!

- i went with the 'natural' tape from Nashbar... it's cork, and lighter than the honey B17 Special i have, but it matches...

- Brooks is rumored to be introducing a leather bar tape this year or next, IIRC...

- the Nashbar tape (on sale now for $5.90) is a good deal... i may stock up with a few extra rolls...

(i double wrap, so i lay used tape from other bikes under my bar wraps)...

I've read that the best match to the honey B17 is yellow cloth tape with many coats of shellac over it.

There is "dark tan" (basically brown) Velox/Tressostar cloth tape which you can get from Riv or Harris... it's not a great match for a honey Brooks B.17 (the tape is too dark and doesn't have enough red in it), though it's not too bad if you're not trying tto be exact. I liked my Cinelli natural colored cork tape better, but it didn't survive an unwrapping to install a new stem. You can shellac over natural-color cork tape for a good match with a honey Brooks, or over yellow cloth tape. Shellac over brown tape would be way too dark.

I tried the Nashbar natural color, didn't care for it personally. It was a much lighter color than it appeared in the ad copy. It looked like a very light tan suede. I gave it a fair trial, but just didn't like the look. Just my 02 cents

My local bike shop had a fancy leatherette bar cover tape, around $20 at the store. I couldn't bring myself to buy it, however, thinking how much I'd regret it once the stuff got scraped up in a crash.

I think this is the stuff:

Brooks makes real leather tape, looks nice, but costs a fortune.

There's an old classic handlebar out there where the leather cover is laced up the bars like on a nice sportscar steering wheel. Possibly the most beautiful handlebars I've ever seen. Seems like an enterprising person could simply go to an auto parts store and buy the stuff intended for car steering wheels and adapt it to a bike (cutting out for the brake levers, for example.

These guys often carry the Brooks leather wrap:

They don't have it now. When they do it is $50. I got a B17 (honey) showing up today. My Cinelli natural cork tape will have to do until I feel like blowing $50.

can that Brooks tape get wet? It'd not be so easy to put a plastic bag over it like one can do with a saddle... Otherwise, consider me blowing.

I wrapped my bars with yellow cloth tape from Rivendell, secured the ends with hemp twine and applied amber shellac (2 parts alcohol to 1 part shellac) to all. It looked great but was a significantly lighter brown than my B-17 honey brown saddle. However, my pinky went numb after a couple of rides and I had to replace it with 2.5 mm bar phat. My hands feel better but i miss my great looking handlebars!
I have big hands. Do you think I could wrap yellow cloth tape around the black bar phat and then shellac it all yet again?

You could check out this guy on EBAY. I bought this brown bar cloth for my Univega "Specialissima" bike. Real nice color and easy to put on. I think it's made by Cat Eye. Here's the link:

Linux...thanks for your post. I too ride a honey Brooks saddle...now with a darkened patina...and have considered natural colored bar tape as well. Is there any padding or backing to the Nashbar tape you reference? I may try double wrapping as you have to see if I like the added cushion.
Thanks,
George
