Vinyl over CF?

How would clear vinyl covers/stickers work when applied onto, say, a carbon fork to protect it from minor crashes? The stuff seems pretty tough for a (thicker) layer of plastic. Imagining iminent crashes scraping the sides of the fork is a sight to cry over. Only problem I see is the glossy sheen the cover might emit compared to the flat black on the rest of the bike.
