Repairing front fork

I salvaged an old Hercules road frame for a fixie/beater project. After I got home, I tried to remove the front wheel and the right fork blade came with it. Pulled clean out of the lug in the crown. I'm wondering if and how this can be repaired. For mostly aesthetics reasons, I like the rake and bend on the fork plus the lugs and paint match the frame. I'm partly curious if this is impossible or unreasonably expensive to fix. Would I be better of hunting down another old fork (which is probably what I will do)? Should this cause me to worry about the other joints on the bike? Thanks.

Would that be a steel fork? That would be my guess.
It could probably be repaired. Have it looked by a qualified frame builder.
This is one of those failure areas that would be life-threatening.

Wow, that is scary. You are so lucky it didn't happen while you were riding. You can probably get it repaired pretty cheap. Older lugged steel forks aren't very hard to find though, and they aren't expensive. If this happened to me, I'd buy a new one, because I would be really freaked out.

well, that's a bit unusual... probably can be fixed, but might be cheaper to find a beater to swap forks with. i'd check the downtube and toptube near the headtube for crumpling. or better yet take it to a shop for a looking over.

The fix is to braze the fork blade back into the crown. Of course doing that is going to ruin the paint job which is your stated reason for wanting to keep this fork. A brand new all chrome replacement fork, better quality than the original, would probably cost less than $50.00. Make sure that you get the right steerer tube length.

Where does one find a brand new steel/chrome fork for a fair price?

thanks for the tip. BTW, what does one need to measure on the frame in order to establish compatibility with the fork? What are the different measurements for forks, and what do they measure?
