10 speed cassette on 9 speed bike

I'm in the process of getting my junior track racer on the road. The bikes I'm looking to get her are Shimano 9 speed. The problem is the stock gearing is way to big for juniors. Ultegra 10 cassettes can be configured to junior gearing. Small cog can be 13, 14, 15 or 16. According to the Shimano website, only ultegra has this option. I also see that dura-ace 10 cassettes are 9 speed free hub compatable.

Finally my question, will the ultegra 10 fit on a 9 speed hub and if so, with 9speed shifters what cog would I lose, the big or the small? I also assume I would need to change out the chain.

I would rather do this than block out cogs, if it is possable.

Thanks for any help!

The ultegra 10 cassette will fit,but you are also going to have to do something with the rear shifter, like get a 10 speed, as there is a big difference in cog spacing between shimano 9 and 10.

You should be able to find the cassette you need in 9-speed Ultegra. They have been built in 13-25 and 14-25, try ordering through your LBS and try e-bay. Another option is to build or buy a custom 9-speed cassette. Or buy 10-speed shifters, cassette, and chain or a complete 10-speed bike.
Like sydney said, a 10-speed cassette will not work with 9-speed shifters.

Might as well give Sheldon a plug. Harris Cyclery had both 105 and Ultegra level 9-speed cassettes in 13x23 and 13x25 and an Ultegra 9-speed cassette in 14x25.

Look here: https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/k7.html#9cassettes and scroll down to the 9-speed cassette list.

Thanks HillRider that's the exact one I'm looking for. I should have known they would have it.
