bottom bracket too narrow?

HELP
I bought a new bike (Cannondale Synapse) recently and I can't adjust my front derailleur in enough. It bottoms out against the frame and the chain rubs in some gears. I didn't like how the LBS that I bought it from put it together, so I took it to a shop recommended by members of my club. The mechanic at the recommended shop told me to have the bottom bracket replaced with a wider one to allow more adjustment. Does this sound right? If so, should I ask the shop where I bought the bike to replace it since the original didn't work?

Thanks, Plosive

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Sounds logical to me. Sometimes aluminum framed bikes that have fat seat tubes require a slightly wider bottom bracket. Otherwise the front derailleur will bottom against the seat tube before it can pull the chain over far enough to engage the granny chainring.

That is a trouble we had with CDale way back in '94, you would think they would have started putting a little dent in the seattube right where the der touches like many other makers do now.
I would try the shop you got it from, as it should be free: New bikes are supposed to work right.
