Shims for clamp-on ders. (32mm->28.6mm)

I have a Veloce group coming to rebuild my old steel commuter. The front der only comes in 32mm, but my seat tube is 28.6mm. So, I need a shim.

Now, I am also building up a nice Ti bike with a CT crank. I was considering getting a 32mm FSA CT front der, and it comes with a shim to allow its use with a 28.6mm seat tube.

Will this FSA shim fit on, and work properly with a Veloce 32mm front der?

Another option, is I may get a Chorus front der for the Ti bike instead of the FSA, which means I will have no way to shim the Veloce der for my older bike. What makes a good home made shim to use for this der? Has anyone here done this?

A factory Electra Townie I once had came with a factory shim for just what you need. They used a strip of rubber that looked like it had been cut out of a tire! Seemed to work perfectly AND never damaged the paint!

Buy the braze on derailleur and use one the many clamp adapters available. I bought one for my Veloce at my LBS for a whopping $10 Good luck.

I already ordered the 32mm clamp-on version since that was ll they had at the time. No braze-ons in stock. I will try the hard rubber shim type first. Thanks.

Whoah! That's a lot of beer. A can is maybe 0.1mm - 0.2mm thick and he's got to get an additional 3.4mm? I was just shimming my handlebars from 24mm to 26mm so that I could attach my aerobars. I would definitely suggest NOT using can stock to shim this since you'd have to go around and around and around to get the right thickness.

I went to a local hobby shop for some sheet aluminum close to 1mm thick. Cut myself some strips and wrapped them around the bar. It's working out so far. I was concerned that I'd have to knurl something to keep it from sliding, but no problems yet.
