I'm going to 're-purpose' a utility room in my house soon, and I want to set it up as a bike workshop.

I thought there were some good suggestions in this thread: Building home shop from the ground up.

LOL, Thats exactly how my family room looks right now too.

I was thinkng it would be cool to have Durham bike enthusiasts share a space, tools, knowledge, etc. I have the detached garage, but not much in the way of tools or knowledge. I wonder if something like that could actually work...

I would have taken some detail shots, but my card is full. The main features are the 17" drill press, the air system with the compressor outside in a cabinet, bench grinder, belt/disk sander and a central vac system that I haven't got around to hooking up. I have to stand on a step stool to see in the top drawers of the tool cabinet. It's actually much better equipped than the bike shop where I used to work, but I don't have much space. It's in a two-car garage. I can still get a car in there if I move the work stand.

The next thing I plan to add is a sink so I can wash up before I go into the house.

You mean the bedroom? Old pics, kinda funny.

Nice set-up. I have some old (we're talking 1950's old) kitchen cabinets in my shop, also.
I'll take some photos when I get home from work.

Funny, I'm planning on taking the cabinets out of the kitchen and putting them in my shop. Knotty pine's not so hot in a kitchen in Oklahoma, but perfect for a workshop!

my "workshop" is usually my kitchen, and my storage is mostly my bedroom... the small apt (luckily not TOO small) and lack of storage make things a little messy

Have you guys tried decorating with bike parts yet?
Instead of pictures, now I hang chainrings,forks and clusters on the walls.

Frames are hanging from the ceiling. I keep the tires in the basement -they are kinda smelly.

this is my basement. excuse the messyness.

all of the stuff on the righthand side of the bench, over in the corner, are things like vices and bench grinders that i need to get around to bolting down one day. i'm sort of in the middle of an extended project to rebuild that bench. it's too high for me and too shallow for my liking.

the discolored spot on the wall is where pegboard used to be. i was going to redo that as well. i ran out of money to even get started buying materials.

the box on the left hand side is my spares/small parts box. in it you'll find lots of things like derailler pulleys, cable crimp ends, ferrules, brake pads, barrel adjusters, and so on.

the black box is my pedro's master kit. i've done some modification to it. tore out the foam in the bottom that divides the tools up to make more room, replaced a few tools with the Park equivalent, added a few such as side-cutters and slip joint pliers, and so on. i still want to replace the cable cutters, 4th hand, and 3-way wrenches. i also want to replace the screwdrivers. in time.

the stand is an older wrench force, back when they were made by Ultimate.

the red and yellow canisters are a mapp/oxygen torch. i'm currently out of oxygen.

off to the right, outside of the photo, is another smaller table. i store tires on it.

to the left, outside of the photo, is a little area i store wheels in.

the two square pails are my wash kit. one for drivetrain, one for frame. in each you'll find an assortment of brushes, some heavy duty rubber gloves, soap, degreaser, and that sorta thing.

after thinking about it some, i'm not sure i'm going to bother with pegboard or anything. i'm used to working out of the box, and i'd hate to have to load/unload the box whenever i go on the road. maybe one day when if i get a second set of tools or something, but that's not in the immediate future.
