Unicrown fork question

Are unicrown forks bad or inferior? I ask because I saw few notes about how unicrown forks can make a good bike look bad. If they are bad, why are they looked down upon? Also, I saw a picture of a unicrown fork (an analogy is that they are like a torso without shoulders), and I compared it to the fork on a 2002 Giant OCR3 and I didn't see much difference, yet the specs for the OCR did not say it had a unicrown fork. ???

Thanks.

They're just ugly... it's an aesthetic preference. There are lots of bikes both high and low-end these days that have unicrown forks, it's not something that is always (or even usually) mentioned on fork design specs.

They seem to be heavier than a well made lugged fork.
Are you sure that the OCR3 fork was steel. Carbon forks usually have the unicrown look but a completely different construction.

I was just going by looks. It didn't look that different than the one a Specialized Crossroads that is spec'd out as a unicrown. I don't think the '02 OCR3 is a unicrown, I want to say that it is aluminum.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if a bike has a unicrown fork on it (factory), it doesn't have to be replaced with a unicrown one does it? I am trying to reduce the weight of the bike.

Thanks for the info.
