Shimano 600 chain for 6 speed
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I might find a chain to replace my old Shimano 600 6 speed chain....and I need the press-in pin or a 'master link' if there is such a thing for that size chain.

No one makes chains specifically for 6-speed anymore. Basically, as you get more cogs on the rear wheel you need a narrower chain, but chains designed for 8-speed will work on 6-speed cogs still. I'd say go with a SRAM 48 or 58 chain.
Just b/c your Shimano chain had a special pin or master link doesn't mean that you need one to ride your 6-speed bike. But the SRAM chains do have a master link that you can disconnect without needing to use a chain tool.

Deja a standard KMC UG chain will work just fine and be the least expensive.

Nashbar has their recumbent/tandem chains which are made by KMC and are 8 speed compatible on sale for like under $8. They are 232 links which would be more than enough for two chains worth once broken and they come with one master link. However I do also recommend the SRAM 48 and 58 but you will still need to break them down to the proper # of links for your drivetrain.

...Thanks for all the info guys. I had tried a new chain earlier, but it 'skipped' on the rear sprocket... a "new chain, old cog" problem I've been told. This was after another problem(that I'm going to spare you from) that I repaired. Everything is inline and runs smooth, the chain just won't stay hooked up. I would like to try the old chain but I can't get that rivet pin(that I had to press out) locally and I can't find a master link that will fit either. Again, thanks for the info! Alan P
