PowerLink compatability with Shimano chains

Anyone know whether or not the 9-speed powerlink is compatible with a Shimano HG-93 chain? Or would I be better off to simply purchase a SRAM chain?

Thanx!

Never had any problems but it might be cheaper to get the SRAM chain, it comes with the link.

Just in case anyone was curious, the 9-speed powerlink fit my HG-93 chain perfectly.

There's been a couple of threads mentioning the Powerlink is not compatible with the Shimano 3x series.

Given a choice, I'd go for the SRAM chain. I've been running them for 5+ years and not a problem. I don't believe Shimano chains are better than SRAM.

I'll almost certainly look for a SRAM chain in the future, but for now I'm hoping to get my money's worth out of the current one... it has less than 200 miles on it (that goes for the entire bike, actually). So far, they seem to be interacting quite well.

I'm not sure which chains are included in the Shimano 3x series (forum/google searches weren't all that revealing).

I am another user of the SRAM golf links with Shimano chains HG-93 and some lower level 9 speed chain. Works just fine, contranry to what Shimano wants you to believe.

Not only does Shimano warn of dire consequences if used with SRAM, but SRAM has same warning. Here is the link discussing SRAM Powerlink and Shimano IG31 incompatibility.

I suspect that's largely a case of CYA (Cover Your A**) from both manufacturers... do this at your own risk, in other words.
