Ref2844 01-07-06 07:53 AM

Hi i was wondering if anyone knew how to paint front suspension. I don't know what kind of paint to use or if i have to sandpaper it first. If anyone has ever painted their front suspension on their bike before please tell me how so i can get it all ready for spring time.
Thank you! :)

I'd recommend that you take a look at the "painting a frame" thread for tips on how to paint. To apply this to a suspension fork, you should disassemble the fork, and paint the pieces seperately. Be careful to only get paint where it's not supposed to be, and would gum up the suspension action.

I painted a fork a while back. It was pretty easy. I didn't sand it, but I did use a coat of primer, otherwise the paint wouldn't "stick" to the glossy surface.

Definitely take it apart and mask liberally. A poorly-placed blob of paint on a seal could cause lots of trouble.

Say it with true love, say it with Krylon.

Don't paint the stantions, what you pointed out. The tolerances are tight to keep fluid from leaking out and painting will just be problematic.
