For a cleaner look and unemcumbered hands-on-the-drops, I'm thinking of re-routing my bar-end (D/A indexed) shifter cable right alongside my brake cables on the bar and exiting from under the tape near the stem. At present it does the traditional thing of sticking out straight ahead and curving back into the dt cable guide/adjusters.
Seems like a lot of bends that might impede quality shifting. Anyone doing so already.....good shifting?

If you read the referenced thread, you now know it can be done that way successfully and the only considerations are that you need longer housing and may need a tandem length rear derailleur cable

I find it helps to run the shift cables to the opposite side of the frame and let them cross under the downtube on the way to the bottom bracket. This gives them a smoother arc between where they come out of the tape and the stops on the frame.

I've got my barcon housings under the tape, but they exit out about 1 1/2" below the bottom of the brake hoods. They're not in the way in any hand position on the bars, and still have adequate relief angles heading to the downtube bosses. Let me know if you're interested in this approach, I'll pop a few photos....
