front derailer question...
piecing together a new bike, and just picked up a FSA 'cross crank for it on eBay. chainrings are 48/38. i want to use a Campy Mirage FD - but can i use the standard double model? minimum capacity is 39T. will this work? or do i need to get the compact version that can handle a 34T minimum?

If you already have the Mirage give it a try. I suspect that the compact derailleur will work better.
Does the frame have a braze-on type derailleur hanger or a clamp-on. There can be a problem with adjusting the derailleur low enough for the smaller chainrings if it is a braze-on. Clamp-ons work well on metal frames but not carbon fiber.

i have a Mirage triple FD now and like it; that's why i want to get another Mirage for the new bike. the new frame (which i haven't purchased yet, waiting on W-2 form from work) is clamp-on.

I just read an article by Lennard Zinn on velonews.com that claimed the Campy compact front derailleur gave crappy shifting performance on anything but a Campy compact crankset. First I've heard of it, but you might want to check that out.
