Need a little help with my Headshok. I have a an Ultra Fatty DL which no longer is holding air. Has anyone else experience this problem?
If I take in to the shop, about how much am I looking for the repair??

Thanks for the help,

Carlos

I have never personally experienced this, but I have seen many, many riders that have. hopefully it is under warranty. If it is be prepared for a wait Cannondale is slow. If not repair cost depends on what is damaged, and how much the shop labor charge is.

Yeah, I think I'm screwed on this one. The fork in under warranty for only a year and I've had the bike for a year and a half. Hopefully it won't cost me a fortune to get it fixed.

As a mechanic at a Cannondale dealer, it's probably not as bad as you think. First of all if you bought the bike from the same shop in town, they should go the extra mile warranty wise for you. Secondly, don't try to do it yourself on this one. There is a special tool that only dealers have, (kinda sucks, but oh well-protects them from the liability!) It may just need to be rebuilt, I've done this to a couple of forks including my own and my wife's. If the seals are all in good shape, there is probably some sand or grit in the o-rings causing the leaking. I've taken it apart soaked the pieces in the parts tank, cleaned everything, put in new oil and been back in action in about 45 minutes. If I had to charge someone to do this, it would probably be about $25.00. If it's too bad, they'll send the fork back to Cannondale, they offer 24-hour turn around, but shipping back and forth take 3-5 days each way, so at a minimum it'll be 2 weeks before you're back and riding.

Other than the occasional abuse,(not saying this is you) most Ultra Fatty Forks just need minor maintainence and a recommended semi-annual rebuild. It sounds like a rebuild is what you need, and not a trip back to the factory. Hope all works out for you.

Thanks Boomer...Actually you were right, it wasn't as bad as I thought. It just needed to have the seals replace and that was it. My friendly LBS took care of it for only $45. They also put a lighter weight oil in the fork to speed up the rebound. Way too slow for my tastes and the fork is better than new.
