Using modern STI shimano gear with older steel frame

Using modern STI shimano gear with older steel frame
are there many issues i should be concerned with here?
i'd like to take the STI shimano bits (105 & ultegra) off of one bike, and use as much of it as possible on an older steel frame that has downtube shifter braze-ons. assuming the rear spacing is the same, and i get the bottom bracket issues (threading, spindle width) right, do i have much to fret over?

Nope, that should work out just fine. Just make sure you get the cable housing stops that fit over the downtube braze-ons.

Essentially, if your bike already has a cassette and an indexed shifter, all you need to do is to make sure you have the same number of cogs and install the STI shifters. But if your bike is older (pre 1985 or thereabout), has a 5- to 7-speed freewheel, is non-indexed, etc. you may have to change the freewheel for a 7-speed freewheel (assuming you have 7-speed STI) or change the wheel for a freehub-based wheel. You might also need a new derailleur (modern Shimano stuff is standard, older was not).
Issues might be similar in front if your bike is pre 1985 or 1990, but I won't venture that far.

Only point of concern may be the reach on the brakes compared the the originals. Many older frames were built with the brake bridges / fork crowns with more clearance than today's models. Besides that, and if the rear stays can fit the newer wheel you should be good to go.
