I broke this ....
... black piece on the bb. I wasn't too careful putting the crank back on and snapped the piece in half. It's unusable. I think it's a dust cover, however I'd appreciate anyone's input. Should I worry about it?

Super Glue is great for difficult plastic repairs. It's interesting, the use of plastic in supposedly reliable bicycle parts. Now shimano calls plastic "engineering plastic" to soften the blow of knowing that plastic comprises a big part of your investment. Maybe you have Full Speed Ahead plastic.

I dont know how huge a company FSA is. But why don't you go to their website and see if there's someone you can send an e-mail to describing what happened. You just might bump into someone willing to go above and beyone and send you a spare. Then again, maybe not. But it's worth a try. I've had success contacting friendly folks at Sram, Surly and Race Face.

I have the same BB, I don't think it matters too much because the bearings are sealed units. I second the just glue it bit. What I find most annoying about those BB's is that the inner diameter of the bearing unit is an odd size. The bearing supply wearhouse here in vancouver couldn't get me bearing in that size anyway. SO you have to shell out 100 bucks for a new BB. If you know where you can get bearings for these BBs I would apprecite it if you let me know. Cheers!

I thought one of the benefits of those new outboard bearing BB's is that you can easily replace just the bearings. It's one of the reasons I'd conside one for my next bike. In fact, I've seen replacement sets for the Shimano models for sale on .com websites. So shelling out for an entire BB shouldn't be necessary - unless FSA has designed it that way. And that would suck.

without the plastic bit the crank will move inside the bearing, had it happen on a Raceface BB.
