shimano cantis Shimano BR-R550 .........
i'm building up a new bike and i was looking for some feedback on these shimano cantilever brakes. i wanted to use something like XTR cantis and these look as nice to me but i can find very little info from actual cyclists who have used these brakes which are going on a LS pisgah that is being set up for the road.
i appreciate any help.

Try 'em, you'll like 'em.
I've got two bikes outfitted with them. The heavy tourer, they modulate nice and stop ya quick as you want, even doing 40 with 30 pounds of luggage.
On my fast city 26er, I like them for the one finger braking with diacompe levers. The straddle cables are troublesome if you're running big tires and fenders. To keep the pads tight, it makes it tough to drop the cables when you want to take the wheel off. But that's my only beef with them.
They work just about like any other short pull canti with linear pads, but a little sexier. Nice and stout.

i've got them too on my cross, I like them, strong and quiet when braking. Also like bek said for some reason they are a ***** to unhook to get your tires off, but other than that they do the job.

I put them on my LHT. Once I learned how to adjust them, they work without squeeling.
BIG! About half again the size of my old Exage ones on a MTB.
I like them.
