Wheelbuilding tips with Lefty hub

I have to build a wheel for a customer with a Lefty hub.
Are there some way to build it in my ordinary truing stand or have I to build it in the single leg fork.
The second question I have is how to center the rim. Should I center it between the flanges or the axle.

Regards

Martin

If it's not a disc brake hub, I would assume it should be centered between the flanges. I have no experience with these, so that's just a guess. If it does have a disc brake hub, I would call Cannondale and ask.

Yes it's a disc brake hub.
I think the easiest way to center the rim is in the fork and center it against the fork head.

There is a specific tool that you can get so you'll be able to mount it in your truing stand. You'll just center the rim up between the flanges.

from cannondale you get a hub insert that sets into the lefty hub and makes it a regular qr for truing/dishing/building only, you can not ride on this adaptor. just call cannondale.

I have tried to get the tool for putting a lefty in a truing stand for nearly a year. Cannondale refuse to sell me one. Maybe if you have a freind in a Cdale shop you can get one. I ended up making a set of spacers to fit in the bearings with spacer between to prevent binding. looks very ghetto, holds the hub fine.

Thank you for the answers. It look like I have to build it in the fork anyway.
I'm thinking of setting an anchor nut in the bottom of the fork head tube (sorry for my english. I hope you understand me) and use a threaded axle to help me to center the rim.

I think that would be a pretty good way to center the rim. It won't be very critical anyway because you don't have to worry about having the rim centered between brake pads.

P.S. Your English is better than many Americans.

P.P.S. I just realized that there's no such thing as a rim-brake Lefty fork. Dufus!

Found on ebay ....
You are bidding ... blablabla Cannondale 24-hole Lefty hub. This is the rare polished version. It is for 6-hole disc brake rotors and 24-hole spoke pattern. It is compatible with all Lefty's from all years and all 6-bolt standard rotors. Hub is complete with sealed cartidge bearings, end cap, and axle bolt. Hub weight is 133grams(with bolt and end cap). Retail price from cannondale is $100.00, or you can buy it here for $50.00. No surprises, check my 100% positive feedback.
Info for building wheel (Left Flange=58mm)(Right Flange=45mm)

I don't think Leftys come in a V-brake version... for obvious reasons. Nowhere to put the right brake stud.

Right there is a Lefty truing adapter that any Cannondale dealer should be able to get you. I got one a couple of months ago for $17 through my LBS. Retail is like $20.
