Connex Chain Link for 10 Spd Shimano???

So the mechanic at the LBS says use a Connex Chain Link with an Ultegra 10 spd chain instead of a pin.

1. What do you think?

2. In general, is a link trash when the chain is beyond spec, or can you re-use it?

Thanks

I think you have a knowledgeable LBS guy who would probably be worth bending your ear towards with future questions. This is a very good setup/combo for chain cleaning and maintenance. The chain will last longer if you slide it off at the Connex link and clean and lube it regularly. Mondo easier than popping pins. Toss the link when your chain is stretched. No biggie, maybe four beans for a newbie. I am using this same setup on one of my bikes and it is really quiet. My .02

I use them and have dozens of customers using them with never a problem. I would replace the link with the chain. If you look close you can see the wear pattern on the link pin, two grooves on the facing sides of the pins.

Excellent!

Will the Connex 9 speed link work for 9 speed Shimano chains?

I have a Sram Powerlink on my touring bike and have had no problems.

Yep. The Sram link will also work, and it is cheaper.

just make sure that you don't put the link on upside down. Should work.
