V-Brake lever driving side pull brake: Will I die?

What are the drawbacks here? Can I use a V-brake lever to drive a side pull caliper brake?

V-brake levers give you about half the leverage (and twice the cable travel) of non-V levers, so the brake will feel quite firm but you will have to apply about twice as much force to the brake lever as you would with the non-V levers.
