Old with the new
 

Ive just got hold of a new ish Deore lx, shifter pod that im trying to get to work with an old deore dx front mech,(it works fine with the 7 cogs at the back despite being a 9 shifter), but on the front chainwheels it rubs somewhere however i adjust it, ive noticed that my new xtr fr mech is a lot wider than the old dx ( the space between the inner and outer plates), is this the inherant problem its just not meant for the newer style of shifter, or is a case of persevering
